Importance of Early Treatment:

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that a child's first visit to the orthodontist take place no later than age 7, or earlier if an orthodontic problem is detected. As the primary teeth erupt, jaw growth problems and tooth malformations may develop. Although treatment may not necessarily be needed at an early age, an examination is very important to ensure maximum dental health for your child.

If you observe any of the following early warning signs in your child's development, you may need to call an orthodontist:

  • Overjet - upper teeth protrude past lower teeth
  • Underbite - lower teeth protrude beyond upper teeth
  • Crossbite - upper teeth fit inside lower teeth
  • Open bite - upper and lower do not contact
  • Overbite - lower front teeth contact upper gums
  • Overlapping or crowded teeth
  • Mouth breathing
  • Difficulty Chewing
  • Speech problems with associated tongue habits
  • Finger sucking after age 5
  • Jaw joint problems or unexplained earaches
  • Early or late loss of teeth
  • Grinding or clenching of the teeth
If you observe any of these signs in your child, please talk with your family dentist and call Dr. Papir at 303-679-6111 for more information.
